Schotten & Hansen, creator of the finest-quality regenerable wooden flooring and surfaces for some of the world’s most beautiful spaces, is excited to announce its 40th Anniversary. Reflecting on four decades of craftsmanship and innovation.
Since the company was founded in Peiting, Bavaria in 1984, Schotten & Hansen has been committed to making the highest quality wooden floors and interiors surfaces using traditional workmanship in combination with modern engineering technology and natural ingredients. From a small business focusing on restoring historic furniture and surfaces, the company has grown over the decades into an internationally renowned specialist solution provider. Today, founder Torben Hansen is still at the helm of the business, alongside CEO Bernhard Heinloth, with Torben’s sons Maximilian and Ulrich joining the family business in recent years, and now acting as Head of Product Management and UK Managing Director, respectively.

In celebration of its fortieth year, Schotten & Hansen announces a vibrant programme of events and projects for 2024, showcasing the company’s unique approach, understanding, and appreciation for the natural character of wood, creating timelessly beautiful products that will last a lifetime.
Events Calendar 2024:
During Salone Del Mobile in Milan, 16-21 April 2024, Schotten & Hansen will partner with luxury home appliances manufacturer Gaggenau and architect Hendrik Müller (1zu33 Architectural Brand Identity) to create a new bespoke wooden surface for the brand’s innovative installation, The Elevation of Gravity at Villa Necchi. With a unique textured layer, the wooden surface has been inspired by the ridgelines of the Alps between Bavaria and Italy and uses a special technique to create a three-dimensional surface. The Ridgeline surface is available upon request. This exclusive design study will be part of a future product collection.
At Clerkenwell Design Week in London, 21-23 May 2024, Schotten & Hansen will showcase the Mythical Forest Salon, a creative collaboration with Kit Kemp Design Studio previewing Schotten & Hansen’s new pioneering magnetic product treatment. In celebration of Schotten & Hansen’s 40th anniversary, Minnie Kemp, Design Director of Kit Kemp Design Studio has designed an immersive space that will showcase the Pitter Pat magnetic table, along with outstanding coloured floor designs, and a curated palette of eight Douglas Fir veneers that can be used across a multitude of surfaces for maximum impact.
New Schotten & Hansen exhibition spaces will open in Austria and Switzerland, boosting the portfolio of European locations from four to six across Germany, United Kingdom, Austria and Switzerland. The first will open in Erlenbach in collaboration with Swiss interior designer Ina Rinderknecht on 13th June 2024. Founded on the concept of ‘Living with Colour’, a shared passion of both Ina and Torben, the space will showcase Schotten & Hansen’s full range of coloured veneers in harmony with other design elements. This will be followed later in the summer with a second brand presence in Kitzbühel.
Encapsulating the timeless resilience and natural beauty of a tree’s growth rings, Schotten & Hansen will add a new creation, Graincut Empire to its product line. Created from ash wood that is sawn horizontally across the trunk, unlike boards and parquet, the cut surface displays the precise perfection in nature of a tree’s circular annual rings. Historically this cut of wood has been used in workshops and outdoor projects due to the natural resilience of wood cut this way, its noise-absorbing qualities, and the resourcefulness of using all the tree. Graincut Empire uses three cuts from the tree with a multi-layering construction, combined with the age-old Roman Bond laying method.
