Tangential section

Longitudinal section parallel to the stem axis and perpendicular to the growth rings (plain sawn section, board cut, chord cut).

Three-layered engineered floorboards

The Schotten & Hansen floorboards are made up of three layers of solid wood, whereby the middle layer runs crossways. Since the grain of the middle layer runs crosswise to the outer layers, the strength of the processed wood is balanced. Warping is practically impossible. Due to the multi-layered structure, the special properties of solid wood, such as swelling and shrinkage with changes in humidity, are largely cancelled out. In practice, this means significantly fewer gaps forming. Overall, the wood looks like a real solid wood floorboard but it does not change as much.

Tongue

The tongue is a milled strip that projects from the narrow edge of the floorboard and is inserted seamlessly into the groove. However, tongues can also be separate strips, used to form a connection between two grooved floorboards.
